Pagladawan
English:

The University of Washington played its first-ever football game on Thanksgiving Day, 1889, at the Jefferson Street Park, just east of downtown. In the next decade the university moved to its present site five miles north of downtown, in a wooded area bordering Lake Washington. Football games were played at old Denny Field on the northwest corner of the campus near 45th Street. This image was taken during a game played on November 24, 1910, against the Oregon Agricultural College (now known as Oregon State University) Aggies. UW won 22-0, with 6,000 spectators in attendance. William Jennings "Wee" Coyle (1888-1977), shown here while being tackled by three Oregon Agricultural players, was the only quarterback to play four years without losing a game. He also lettered in baseball and track, and is honored in the University Hall of Fame in all three sports; he later served as Lieutenant Governor of Washington State from 1921-1925. Fred Spargar is identified as the Washington player in the center of the image.
